Kraig Powell's Awards and Recognitions
Kraig was prepared early for political life when he was elected at the 1983 Utah American Legion Boys’ State Convention to serve as one of two senators from Utah at the Boys’ Nation Convention held in Washington, D.C. Kraig further pursued his interest in politics by majoring in political science at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, located across the street from the Oregon State Capitol.
Kraig then relocated for a time to the East Coast, where he served as a legislative intern in the United States Senate. After finishing college magna cum laude, Kraig enrolled in graduate studies in Government at the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson, where he earned a J.D. degree, as well as a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Government.
Kraig is employed as an attorney with Tesch Law Offices in Heber City. He represents both public and private clients in a practice which focuses on local government, real estate development and land use law. He serves as the Midway City Attorney and the Francis Town Attorney, and so has a particular interest in municipal planning law. The general nature of his public and private practice brings him into contact on a daily basis with hundreds of laws passed by the Utah Legislature.
Kraig also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Utah Valley University’s Wasatch Campus, where he teaches political science, American government, and business law. He has served in all three branches of government and in positions at both the federal and state levels. Kraig has spent his career studying the strengths and weaknesses of Utah’s laws, and is able to use his expertise in improving the quality of legislation in the Utah House of Representatives.
